Weekend Tourism

Saturday

On weekends we get to be tourists. It’s fun. We just decide on a place, and go. Since we both have unlimited transit passes, it makes things pretty simple. Yesterday we decided to head to Westminster Palace to see Big Ben!

Before we went there, we decided to check out Broadway Market, which everyone has been telling us to visit, and is really close to where we are staying. It’s basically about 2 blocks of stalls of food, flowers, clothes, and trinkets. I was hungry, per usual, and spotted this crepe stand!

The guy had a heavy French accent, and definitely knew what he was doing. I ordered a “galette” which is apparently a savory crepe. It was filled with egg, cheese, mushrooms, and spinach. It was very good!

We strolled through the market and picked up a few other odds and ends to snack on, and went and sat in a nearby park. This weekend was special because it was actually sunny and warm! The market and the park were really busy!

After eating and relaxing in the park, we hopped on a bus and headed towards Big Ben!

We stepped out of the subway at the Westminster Station, and it was seriously packed. A sunny, warm day on a weekend… everyone was out. Tourism galore. Here are some of the photos we snapped of the area!

There’s a lot to see in this area, and across the river is the London Eye. This is the giant ferris wheel looking attraction you see in a lot of photos of London, so we crossed the Thames and went to take a look. It’s way bigger than you think! Each “pod” can hold like 30 people! They do have a “romantic” package where 2 people can get their own private pod… but we won’t discuss how much that costs. 😉

This area is heavy with tourists… and street performers looking to do their thing for any spare change they can get. This one guy was setting off these giant bubbles!

This area was very congested, hot, and hard to even walk around in. By this time it was getting late anyway, so we decided to head home, and grab food at our local grocery for dinner.

Sunday

Today we woke up to another sunny day, and had “breakfast” on the back patio. I had broccoli tomato and cheese quiche, and Ash had egg whites, mushrooms, onions, and her Laughing Cow cheese. I say “breakfast” because, really, we woke up at 11am, finished cutting my hair which we had started the night before and then ate.

After breakfast we fell back asleep and took an hour nap, as if we hadn’t slept enough. Once we woke up, we felt like shit because we had that groggy to-much-sleep feeling. Despite that, we decided to go to a very nearby park, Hackney Marshes. Mainly because we heard they had horses. And it was nice out again, so a sunny, warm day in a park didn’t sound bad.

First off, we didn’t find any horses, sadly. This park is huge and we didn’t even make it around the whole thing. We saw some people playing a legit game of cricket, so that was cool! No clue how that game works even after watching it.

We also found this super awesome river seaweed (or waterweed as we named it)! It was so mesmerizing!

Check out a video I took of the flowing “waterweed” on my Instagram.

As we kept strolling, looking for horses, we walked through this huge field along the river.

Which sadly came to a dead end, with no horses. At this point, we needed food, we probably just walked at least 2 miles one way across this park. Now we had to walk 2 miles retracing our footsteps to get back to the bus, so we could catch it to the grocery store.

One more pose before we got on the bus, stopped by a grocery store, came home, made our dinner, and watched a movie.

Today’s This Weekend’s Love

Ash

I loved going to a farmer’s market, and I loved that the sun was out all weekend! I love that Corey was here with me to visit all of the tourist destinations, instead of doing it alone.

Corey

I loved the sun and the warmth! Finally! I’ve learned that London is so so dreary. The sun really perks everything up and gets people stirring!
