Brighton, UK

Today we got to sleep in and it was wonderous. We woke up slow, and decided to book our train tickets to Brighton! We had discussed earlier with roomies and friends about local beaches. The consensus was that the easiest and fastest beach to get to from London was Brighton.

So we threw on our suits, grabbed a towel, and headed towards the tube.

The train ride was awesome! Somehow, on this beautiful Saturday, on a train headed towards a beach, it was empty. So we found our seats and settled in for the hour-ish train ride south.

Along the way, it was awesome to finally see some countryside!

Once we arrived at the train station in Brighton, the beach was only a little less than a mile walk. First off, we noticed how beautiful this town was. It was hilly and quaint. Almost reminded us of the hills in San Francisco.

Here we are getting off of the train in Brighton!

Our review of Brighton is that it’s very nice! But it’s sadly super busy with tourists. The beach was very busy and it was hard to even find a decent spot to lay our towels. Also, there is no sand. The beach is composed of rocks. We also knew this from the get-go, but wanted to go and give it our own review. The water was surprisingly blue. I guess I didn’t expect it to look “tropical” but the blue water definitely made it feel like we were somewhere else, not in the UK. It definitely felt like the Jersey Shore of the UK.

We found our spot, and took a seat on the rocks. First thing I noticed was that it was tough to get comfortable due to the rocks. Definitely needed a thicker towel and a pillow! I took off my shoes and headed down to the water. First thing I also noticed was that it was very tough to walk on! As I limped my way towards the water I looked around and everyone else had the same limp going on. Walking on the rocks wasn’t the most comfortable thing in the world. As I reached the Atlantic and put my feet in the water, it was… freezing. The weird thing is, there were a lot of people in the water! I guess people were taking advantage of the sun and warmth that rarely graces this area. So we didn’t go into the water, but we did soak up the sun!

Here’s some photos of the area:

The thing I loved most about today was getting out of the city with Corey and spending some alone time close to the beach, no city stress!

Today I loved the train ride! This was the first legit train I’ve been on. The seat we sat in had a table and everything! It was cool to see the countryside whiz by and not be underground, where I’m typically at while on trains.
